Common questions
Is a juri shomeisho the same as a marriage certificate?
Functionally, yes. Japan does not issue Western-style marriage certificates; the certificate of acceptance is the official proof that the marriage (or divorce) filing was accepted. Most foreign authorities accept it with a certified translation. Some prefer the koseki entry — check your authority’s requirements.
